TURKISH WINES FROM AEGEAN REGION

PENDORE

Pendore Vineyards, located near the town of Kemaliye in the Aegean Region of Turkey, is a winery with a long and rich history in viticulture and winemaking.

The vineyard comes from "claw horyos," meaning "five villages" in Latin.

The Pendore is Turkey's most crucial winemaking investment. It offers one-of-a-kind wines made from grapes grown locally and internationally.

The Vineyards is committed to producing high-quality wines that reflect the Aegean region's terroir. The winery works diligently in the vineyard to ensure that each bottle of wine reflects the hard labor and dedication to Pendore's viticulture and winemaking practices.

The Pendore vineyards are located at an altitude of 190-475 m above sea level, and most of the vines are planted on slopes that face south. The vineyard is divided into two separate microclimates due to terroir studies and analyses made by specialists. The region is directly a gateway region between the continental climate features of Inner West Anatolia and the Mediterranean climate.

The Pendore is dedicated to producing high-quality wines that reflect the unique terroir of the Pendore vineyards. So if you are looking for a Turkish wine that offers a truly unique experience, Pendore wines should be at the top of your list!

Pendore's philosophy is to produce boutique wines in limited quantities, using carefully selected grapes and processed with modern technology. This commitment to quality is evident in Pendore's flagship wine, Pendore Öküzgözü.

Pendore Öküzgözü is a red wine made from the indigenous Turkish grape variety of the same name. This grape gives the Pendore Öküzgözü wine its distinctive flavor and aroma. The Pendore Öküzgözü wine is aged for 12 months in French oak barrels, which provides the wine with its complex flavor and aroma.

Pendore Vineyards is a must-taste for anyone interested in Turkish wine. The vineyard's commitment to quality, tradition, and innovation makes Pendore an essential player in the Turkish wine industry.

Pendore is a gem of a Turkish winery, and its Pendore Öküzgözü wine is a must-try for any wine lover.

The winery is also located very close to the ancient city of Sardes, which was the beginning of the King's Road in history and the capital of the Lydian Kingdom.

Sardes

Sardis, also spelled Sardes, was the ancient capital of Lydia. It was about 50 miles (80 km) west of where Izmir, Turkey, is now.

It was in a good spot on a spur at the foot of Mount Tmolus (Boz Dag). It looked out over the central plain of the Hermus Valley and was the end of the Persian royal road in the west. In the 7th century BCE, Sardis was the capital of the thriving Lydian kingdom. It was also the first city where gold and silver coins were made. Croesus, known for his great wealth and was the last king of Lydia, ruled over Sardis from about 560 to about 546.

VISITING PENDORE VINEYARD

Our members of SOMM DIGI could go with us on a trip to the Pendore vineyards, where we conducted interviews with the Pendore family to gain insight into their philosophy, winemaking approach, and, of course, geographic origin.

INTERVIEW WITH KAVAKLIDERE

Our viticulture management is extremely careful, and we respect all life cycles to ensure the survival of all animals. Accordingly, our objective is to cultivate grapes organically. Consequently, we place a high priority on avoiding the use of chemicals and fertilizers in our vineyards.

ABOUT PENDORE VINEYARDS

The 2,000 hectares of Pendore Vineyard allow us to produce a wide variety of wine styles. We refer to our grapes as “14+1,” which indicates that we have 14 international and local red grape varieties and one local white grape variety. In the Pendore vineyards, we primarily produce red wines under two distinct labels that are among the most popular on the local market. Pendore and Egeo are two brands. The Egeo Malbec is among our most popular wines. We continually strive to create distinctive wine styles that represent us. In addition, our flagship wine in the region is the Pendore Series. We desired to create something unique that combines our cultures and describes the region’s history. Therefore, Pendore Series exclusively produces red wines from international and local grapes.
